How do I get my CFE certification?

Learn the required steps for becoming a CFE

1. Join the CFE

To become a CFE, you must first join the ACFE.
If you register for the CFE Exam Review course, you don't have to worry about this step:
Either you are already a member or you will be automatically enrolled in connection with your registration for the CFE Exam Review course. After your registration, you will receive an email from ACFE USA with the preparation course materials (download or online version). Please ignore the invoice you received with this email from ACFE USA. You will receive the total invoice with the course fee (including preparatory course and exam fee) from kpr Associates.

2. Prepare for the CFE exam

Install the prep course program on your computer (or install the preferred online access version) as described in the email from ACFE USA. Study the material!

The CFE Exam Review course will review the fundamentals required to pass the CFE exam. Because you are taking the CFE Exam Review course, you do not need to complete the Prep Course software to take the exam. However, we recommend that you study the material before coming to the course and before taking the exam. This allows you to become familiar with the question format and style before the lesson begins and to focus on the content during the lesson sessions. Try the “Practice Exams”, it is a very good measure to get familiar with the exam. Additional learning materials will be provided by kpr Associates prior to the start of the CFE Exam Review course.

Next CFE Exam Review Course: March 18th - 22th 2024

in Düsseldorf or via Zoom. Subsequent course from April 8th to 12th 2024

3. Apply for the CFE exam

Please submit your CFE exam application and supporting documents through the ACFE portal at least one week prior to the start date of the exam review course. The pdf document Exam App and Certification Portal Instructions.pdf guides you through the application process. Submitting applications after this date may delay receipt of your exam code and the certification process. Please use this for the required documentslink.

4. The CFE exam

Before you can earn the CFE credential, you must pass the CFE exam. The CFE exam tests your knowledge in the four main areas that make up fraud exam knowledge:

Fraud Prevention and Deterrence

Tests your understanding of why people commit fraud and ways to prevent it. Topics covered in this section include crime causation, white collar crime, professional fraud, fraud prevention, fraud risk assessment and the ACFE code of professional ethics.

Financial transactions and fraud schemes

Tests your understanding of the types of fraudulent financial transactions in accounting records. To pass Financial Transactions and Fraud Systems, you must demonstrate knowledge of the following concepts: basic accounting and auditing theory, fraud schemes, internal controls to prevent fraud, and other auditing and accounting matters.

Detection

Includes questions about interviewing, taking testimony, obtaining information from public records, tracking down illegal transactions, evaluating deceit, and writing reports.

Law

Ensures you are familiar with the many legal ramifications of conducting fraud investigations, including criminal and civil law, rules of evidence, rights of the accused and prosecutor, and expert testimony.
